The Interceptor comes equipped with the newest-generation Linked Braking System, which has the most bias towards normal braking of any previous setup. While perfectly adequate, and enabling average riders to stay out of trouble in a panic braking situation, we're still not fans of the system.

In order to support the added weight of the under-seat exhausts and optional hard luggage (plus possible cargo) in addition to a passenger, the Interceptor's rear subframe is now a super-beefy steel backbone.

2002 Honda Vfr800 Interceptor Front Fairing
The Interceptor's aggressive new front fairing features a four-headlight setup that works well. A larger three-row oil cooler is used underneath the fairing nose, but note that in the head-on shot, the cooler is mostly out of the airstream.

Although offering the same information as before, the new dash is far easier to read at a glance. Spring and damping rates on the preload-adjustable-only fork are a good compromise.

The trademark single-sided swingarm is 20mm longer, in addition to being 12 percent more rigid. Dunlop D204 Sportmax tires worked well.

The ABS version of the Interceptor gets a remote hydraulic preload adjuster, but the non-ABS version has to make do with the standard spanner tool. Access was easy enough...thankfully.

The Interceptor's ergos are nearly identical to the Aprilia Futura, with one glaring exception: the Futura has far more legroom. And yet we never experienced any ground clearance problems with the Aprilia.

The Interceptor's frame, swingarm and engine cases (swingarm pivots in the cases) were beefed up substantially for improved high-speed handling. The radiators are 20mm taller for enhanced cooling capacity.

The radically styled tail section with under-seat exhausts drew raves, and passengers (the seat cowl is removable) didn't have a problem with burnt legs. Bungeeing something onto the back will take some creativity, though.
