Externally, the SV powerplant appears almost identical to the TL engine, but inside are over 300 changes to improve the low-end performance in order to make the bike easier to ride.

This comparison drawing between the TL1000S and SV1000 intake ports shows how the SV's ports were narrowed down a bit for better intake velocity at lower rpms, thus improving low and midrange power.

This underside shot shows how the SV's exhaust is constructed from numerous tapered sections in order to obtain the correct tuning. Note how the pipe is built around the rear shock linkage.

The SV1000's frame uses the precision die casting technology that is becoming prevalent on all the '03 sportbikes. This not only allowed Suzuki engineers to make a simpler and lighter frame, but also "tune" the rigidity in certain sections for improved handling.

2003 Suzuki Sv1000s Dash
The SV1000's dash layout features the usual analog tachometer and digital speedometer, framed by the idiot lights on both sides. The quarter-fairing does a decent job of deflecting the wind blast from the rider's torso.

New forged pistons using the same pattern from the GSX-R1000 are 15 grams lighter than the TL's cast units. Compression ratio remains the same at 11.3:1.

Suzuki ditched the controversial rotary damper unit from the TL series, and fit the SV with a conventional piggyback reservoir-equipped rear shock.
