New Versus Old
Although it's an inverted cartridge fork, the stock '98 Yamaha R1 unit actually depends on old-style orifice damping instead of the modern (and superior) shim-style damping. Race Tech fully modified our R1 fork with its Gold Valves (plus heavier rate springs and a complete rebuild) to make it behave the way it should. View Related Article
