Last year Yamaha
introduced an updated version of its long-running FJR1300 sport-touring machine
featuring a number of items desired by customers, including cruise control, heated grips, improved engine heat management, different riding modes, and traction control. For 2014
, Yamaha has introduced another version of the big FJR designated the FJR1300ES
. The “ES” suffix stands for “electronic suspension”, as the Yamaha now joins the ranks of bikes with electronically adjustable front fork and rear shock.

A new inverted front fork is part of the new electronically adjustable suspension package on the new FJR1300ES.
A new inverted front fork utilizes the increasingly popular design of independent damping controls in each leg, with compression damping handled by the left fork leg, and rebound damping controlled by the right fork leg. Both fork damping circuits and the rear shock’s compression/rebound damping and spring preload can be adjusted via a handlebar-mounted switch. All actual adjustments are controlled by the FJR’s ECU in order to maintain proper balance between front and rear suspension.

The LCD dash panel shows which suspension adjustments are selected via the left handlebar switch.
There are four overall suspension settings available: “One Up”, “One Up with Luggage”, “Two Up”, and “Two Up with Luggage”. Each of those settings has damping adjustments of “Soft”, “Standard”, and “Hard” to choose from, with seven different levels offered for each of those damping settings. This should allow enough fine tuning possible for every rider and situation.
List price for the new 2014 Yamaha FJR1300ES is set at $16,890.
