Chassis
It all starts with a brand-new, aluminum-alloy frame consisting of five cast pieces designed for improvedcontrol, optimum rigidity and maximum performance. A new compact riding position reduces the seat-tobarmeasurement by 30mm and -- taking cues from the GSX-R1000 -- seat height is reduced for maximumrider control in any situation. Further enhancing the new riding position are new adjustable rider footpegs.These new adjustable controls can be adjusted in three positions covering vertical and horizontal movementsof up to 14mm.
A two-piece, die-cast subframe reduces weight and maintains rigidity while mounted directly above anall-new redesigned, racing-spec, aluminum swing arm. The beefy new swing arm also works in conjunctionwith an all-new linkage, based on the championship-winning RM-Z450 motocross machine. The newlinkage system ensures smooth rear-wheel movement, reduces side loads and creates a more responsiveand progressive suspension system.Brakes are also improved with larger, 310mm front brake rotors working with radial-mount, four-pistoncalipers and a radial-mount master cylinder. The rear brake is new featuring a pin-slide, single-pistondesign for optimum braking and minimal weight.Front suspension duties are handled by new 41mm Showa inner cartridge inverted forks which are fullyadjustable for preload, compression and rebound damping. Keeping the rear wheel in control is all a fullyadjustable, aluminum-bodied shock absorber with a 40mm-diameter damping piston and a 14mm shockrod providing 130mm of wheel travel.
Engine
Powering the '06 GSX-R600 is a new engine design, built to be compact, lightweight and fast.The new GSX-R600 features a narrower cylinder pitch, revised crankshaft, countershaft and driveshaftplacement creating a shorter engine layout, and a new narrower twin injector SDTV fuel injection systemfor maximum performance. New larger 39mm ventilation holes between the cylinders reduce pumpinglosses and new intake and exhaust valve buckets are changed for increased valve lift. Chrome-moly,shot-peened connecting rods utilize a new design for high rpm performance and crankshaft inertia hasbeen increased for improved cornering performance and stability.Cooling capacity is increased by using a new trapezoidal shaped radiator, and piston rings now feature newharder and smoother chrome-nitride plating for reduced friction. The new GSX-R600 also features a newIdle Speed Control system for reliable starting under cold conditions and precise idle control in hot and coldenvironments. And a close-ratio six-speed transmission featuring a back torque limiter provides excellentrider confidence in any situation.
Gauges are a combination of high-performance analog tachometer, LCD speedometer, programmable engineRPM light, and a gear-position indicator along with the traditional, dual tripmeters, clock and water temperaturereadings. A new lightweight generator is utilized and the GSX-R600 has a more powerful ECM.Finally the starter uses rare-earth magnets for a compact and powerful engine-starting system.
What's missing? Look closely and you'll see an innovative new under-engine exhaust system never beforeseen on a GSX-R. This all-new system has been designed for optimum mass centralization, maximumperformance and unbelievable cornering performance. The exhaust header system is routed under theengine to a collector and then to the all-new under-engine muffler system equipped with a proven SuzukiExhaust Throttle valve system and terminating with an aggressive and stylish end cap near the front ofthe rear wheel creating a functional race-inspired look without a visible exhaust canister.
Styling
The '05 GSX-R1000 brought with it an aggressive and stylish new aesthetic that dominated racetracks andcanyons around the world. The new GSX-R600 looks to take that and push it further with an aggressivenew fairing, vertically stacked headlights, lightweight wheels, and an innovative new exhaust system formaximum mass centralization and a bold look.
Starting at the front of the machine, the '06 GSX-R600 sports a completely redesigned front fairing with asmaller frontal area, vertically stacked headlights, and turn signals integrated into the rear-view mirrors fora sharp and refined profile. New lighter three spoke wheels hold high-performance radial tires, and the fueltank sports a sharply styled, resin air cleaner cover continuing the aggressive new look. Taillights are similarto the all powerful GSX-R1000 with integrated turn signals but with an LED taillight with dual taillightlenses.
