Our original YZF600 was looking a bit frayed around the edges. Note the trick exhaust canister, as well as the chain tension.

Considering the vast increase in performance, the money spent for this modification is a veritable steal. For this application, Race Tech retains the stock spring.

Second Look's seat covers and tank pad, made from "marine grade" vinyl, proved a stunningly good color match to the YZF's original maroon skin.

1996 Yamaha Yzf600 Forks
Race Tech modified the fork with Gold Valve compression pistons and custom valving, as well as stiffer-than-stock springs. All together, Race Tech's suspension work front-and-rear cost $795 including labor; a downright steal considering the results. Carbone Lorraine brake pads and Goodridge lines replace the worn-out stock items to good effect.

1996 Yamaha Yzf600 Micron Exhaust
Micron's full system--a 4-into-2-into-1 configuration--with an alloy muffler is a great fit on the YZF, producing good power with a mellow tone. It's also considerably lighter than the all-steel Yamaha parts.

1996 Yamaha Yzf600 Avon Tires
In place of some truly nasty race takeoffs, we spooned on a set of Avon's Azaro-SP Pro-Series AV49 & 50 buns in 120/70 front and 170/60 rear, the largest rear tire the Yamaha's comparatively narrow rim permits.
