The Tech Aero Tank Bag pulls double duty and can function both as a tank bag or backpack with the removable magnetic base (straps are also included for plastic gas tanks). Fully expanded, the Tech Aero holds approximately 30 liters, though the main compartment isn’t divided other than the internal laptop sleeve suitable for computers up to 15 inches. Other features include a clear plastic map sleeve, side pockets and a built-in rain cover.

The Axio tank bag appears rigid at first glance but is actually expandable. A clear plastic map pocket snaps into place on top of the bag (its brittle plastic pull tab is susceptible to breaking). Pull back the map pocket and you’ll find a hidden storage tray with rubberized mat—perfect for quick access to cell phones or cash. Our demo bike has a steel gas tank and the numerous magnets (three per flap) latched on snug and didn’t move. Straps are also provided for plastic tank owners. The main compartment doesn’t have any dividers inside, but the hard-shell top has internal pockets for little items. The included straps allow the tank bag to be converted to a backpack when not riding.

Bags Connection is a German company and the attention to craftsmanship shows in their products. The Engage-Sport tank bag, while visually similar to any other tank bag out there, differs in that it requires the use of a special gas cap base that locks the bag into place. The instructions are rather straightforward, although drilling of the bag’s base is required. Once installed, the bag won’t budge. A clear map pocket is standard, while one side pocket is detachable and converts into a hip pack. The main compartment is expandable up to 22 liters and comes with rain cover and shoulder strap for wearing when off the bike.

650 Sportbike Tank Bag

According to Chase Harper, the 650 Sportbike tank bag was made specifically for the shorter, flatter fuel tanks on today’s sportbikes; as witnessed by the 650’s curvature on the bottom panel. The main compartment is about average size for most tankbags with its 9.5 liter capacity. That doesn’t take into account the numerous pockets both inside and outside the bag. A clear map pocket dominates the top and underneath lies yet another bungee net. A small compartment below the rubberized handle reveals the shoulder straps, allowing the 650 to be worn as a backpack when not in use.
