Mini Tanker Tank Bag
$79.99
Just the thing for those shorter rides, the Mini Tanker tank bag has a modest capacity of almost 15 liters. Two map pockets (one on top, the other on the magnetic base) give you the freedom to decide whether to travel light or with nothing at all. Should you choose to travel with nothing but a map, the base of the Tanker Mini detaches to reveal shoulder straps. Soft-lined pockets on either side hold glasses, keys and music players. A hidden rain hood keeps everything dry when it’s wet outside. We found the magnets to be plenty strong (a strapped system for non-metal fuel tanks isn’t available) although the base does cover a wide area of the tank.
Rapid Transit
Recon 19 Tank Bag
$79.99
The Recon’s solid construction and multiple storage areas give it a wealth of versatility. This water resistant bag features clear pockets for maps and music players, as well as a soft-lined pocket for glasses. It also has a dedicated grommet for a hydration pack (sold separately). Inside, the Recon has nearly 19 liters of capacity, and with pockets both inside and out it’s darn near impossible to leave something behind. Included are straps to convert the tank bag to a backpack. Installation is rather simple either way. With the strap mount, simply wrap the front straps around two solid points (ideally on the frame) and wrap the rear underneath the seat’s anchor point. Connect the buckles to the bag and tighten. That’s all there is to it.
RKA
16 Liter SuperSport Tank Bag
$125.00
RKA has been in the motorcycle luggage business for over 23 years making quality products like the Supersport tank bag. Constructed from 600 Denier polyester, it’s a solidly constructed bag with no frills, but plenty of functionality. Dual main compartments is a highlight of the Supersport, with the upper compartment expandable up to five inches. A mesh-lined inner lid has room for maps or notepads and organizers for pens, phones or music players. The huge, clear map pocket dominates the lid but is also removable. Best of all, it’s completely waterproof. Available in both magnetic or strapped versions, the latter utilizes the three-point attachment arrangement which is a trademark of the company.
Roadgear
Three-Point Compact Sport Tank Bag
$79.90
What’s this? No pleats on a Roadgear bag? Yep, that’s right. The Compact Sport tank bag is Roadgear’s response to those customers not looking for something “jumbo.” As such, the pleats are gone, replaced with an expansion panel. Fully expanded, the tank bag has a 10 liter capacity. The map pocket on top is removable, and the attachment buckles make it a snap (literally) to disconnect the bag and take it with you. Our strap-base model shown here uses the head stock as a base for the strap, as well as an anchor point underneath the seat. Installation is somewhat cumbersome as care needs to be taken to avoid blocking the movement of the bars, but the bag doesn’t budge once fastened properly. An optional backpack strap kit is also available.
Saddlemen
Expandable Magnetic Tank Bag
$139.95
Saddlemen’s tank bag is made from 600 Denier nylon and rigid foam. Itself already waterproof, add in the waterproof zippers and there isn’t a need for a rain cover. Oddly, the map pocket atop the bag has more of an opaque quality to it, but it is removable and reveals a small recess underneath to hold phones, garage openers or wallets. Inside the expandable tank bag there are compartments for small items as well as partitions to control how much the bag can expand. Eight powerful magnets keep everything planted.
