By the time you read this the seasons will be changing and the time will be right to get your steed out of storage, dust her off, fill'er up and take her for a spin. But this is also the time of year where a partial shower here or there can ruin a ride. This is perfect time, then, for true three-season riding gear and we've always been impressed with the versatility of Rev'it, like this Typhoon jacket and Mistral pant.
The Typhoon and Mistral combination have kept us cool, warm, dry and most of all, protected during all but the harshest of weather conditions. Outer shell material is 500D Kodra nylon for abrasion resistance and flexibility, while Knox CE-approved padding rests in the shoulder, elbow and knee areas to protect against impacts. In addition, high-impact foam padding rests along the outer thigh to cushion blows. And when it's warm outside huge mesh panels in the chest, forearm, back and thigh areas allow loads of fresh air in to cool you off.
During the warmer months here in southern California, this combo has proved extremely comfortable when riding and doesn't make the rider feel nearly as vulnerable as full mesh jackets of only a few years ago. Plenty of airflow makes its way to the rider, only now the jacket won't disintegrate upon impact. The slightly contoured fit doesn't inhibit walking when off the bike, but also places the sleeves of the jacket directly on the wrist while in a riding position. The pants can be worn with or without regular pants underneath thanks to an adjustable waist closure for perfect sizing. A full-circumference zipper attachment for both pieces also ensures that the jacket doesn't "ride up" and leave the lower back exposed.
Earlier we mentioned that Rev'it products are known for their versatility. The Typhoon and the Mistral are no exception. For cooler morning rides, or colder days in general, the detachable Hydratex three-layer membrane allows the combo to block a majority of the wind, yet still maintain breathability. The membrane is waterproof as well, just in case you get caught out in the soggy stuff. During our use we found that the duo can block the rain on short, sporadic showers, but we wouldn't want to wear it for anything more than that.
Aside from the comfort and versatility aspect we've really grown to love the Typhoon and Mistral. There are a host of adjustments throughout both pieces (neck, bicep, cuff, waist and ankle) to fit practically any body style. And should you be the type who has a hard time finding pants because of an odd inseam, the Mistral pants also come in long and short varieties. And ladies, Rev'it didn't forget about you--both items also come in women's sizes.
At $239.99 for the Mistral pant and $269.99 for the Typhoon, Rev'it has come through with two quality pieces that we've come to love around here--and when we choose them to ride home in day after day, that says something.
