Known as the worldwide leader in guided motorcycle tours all around the globe, Edelweiss Bike Travel has announced its latest round of "Scouting Tours". For 29 years Edelweiss has been showing enthusiastic motorcyclists from all over the world new and unknown destinations, with an unmatched reputation for organization, style, and fun. The company's annual tour catalog is easily one of the largest and most comprehensive in the industry, and new and interesting destinations are continually being added every year. For the more adventurous motorcyclist, however, Edelweiss recently added the Scouting Tours.
Unlike most of Edelweiss' motorcycle tours where every detail is covered, the Scouting Tours are basically just what the name denotes: these trips are intended as expeditionary assessments of various destinations. As is typical with Edelweiss, most of the rides go through incredibly beautiful scenery. Some of the route will be demanding, though, and not always paved; you'll never know if you have to take detours due to construction sites or blocked roads. The basic route is planned, but there will be many alternatives, with some that you might be asked to explore. In the evening everyone will get together and exchange their experiences of the day, trying to determine the best route for future tours! Hotels, motels, meals will be good, and one or two a little basic, so don't expect to be pampered; remember, these are scouting tours, so you will basically be the "tip of the spear." Of course, there will be a support vehicle for defective motorcycles, luggage and the like. These are recommended for experienced riders who are comfortable with small, curvy, unknown roads.
For 2009, three new Scouting Tours have been added to the schedule:
- Kenya/Tanzania
- Patagonia
- Tyrolean Alps and Passes
