AMA Pro Racing announced the restructuring of its corporate infrastructure and other changes in personnel today in press release, although whether that will have any effect on the organization’s flagging reputation remains to be seen.
According to the release, “Managing Member” David Atlas (an attorney and one of the original five principals of the DMG) has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. Atlas will now have day-to-day operational control of AMA Pro Racing with Managing Member and President Roger Edmondson moving to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer position. This will reportedly “enable Edmondson to focus on the overall direction of AMA Pro Racing and its vision for the future.”
Former AMA Pro Racing Vice President of Competition Roy Janson has left, reportedly relocating back to his home in Ohio for “non-threatening health reasons.” However, Janson will “continue to be available to AMA Pro Racing as an independent contractor/consultant.”
The release also announced the appointment of John Szymanski to the position of Director of Public Relations and overall communications. This comes on the heels of the reported layoffs of former Director of Road Racing Bill Syfan and Director of Timing and Scoring Jim Wardell a couple of weeks ago.
