Avon Tires has just released its new Storm 2 Ultra sport motorcycle tire, the latest edition of its Storm sport-touring series designed for longer mileage and increased traction overall compared its Storm-ST predecessor. Utilizing a new triple-compound construction that features the usual harder composition in the center for longer tire life along with a softer compound on the outer portions for increased grip (with an additional underlying compound for support and structure), the new Storm 2 Ultra also has a “Super Rich Silica” (SRS) formulation that is claimed to offer better grip in wet conditions and quicker warm-up on dry pavement. Also helping in this regard is a new system of “tuning” the steel circumferential 0-degree belt, with a tighter spacing of the steel windings in the center for better carcass control and less heat build-up (for longer mileage), and wider spacing out towards the shoulder of the tread for increased grip. The directional tread siping helps evacuate water, with the reverse directional tread on the front tire also resisting tread “cupping” caused by trail-braking into corners.
Available in six front and nine rear sizes, the Storm 2 Ultra covers the majority of sport and sport-touring bikes. Prices on the front range from $169.92 to $197.79 and rear from $212.42 to $286.43. Avon’s limited road hazard warranty (if a tire is punctured within the first 1mm of wear, you can get a free replacement) also applies to the new Storm 2 Ultra.
