I feel for my time on the road i am pretty advanced for how many riding seasons iv been throught. so pretty much what im askin is what our your suggestions for what i should be able to do on my 750 before moving to a 1k, and what 1k would be a good starter 1k bike?

gsxr 750 - 1k? |

Performance wise its FANTASTIC, it turns like its on rails and stops on a dime, my only if any complaint is the limitations of the factory ecu. It has been refrashed, but im interested in setting up some "Big Boy" goodies on it like launch control, and pit speed, and just cant do it from my stock ecu. Any one recommend a good kit ecu for the 08 GSXR? Pricing? Id need the kit ecu harness ECU-PC cable and software. I have a tuner to help with the tech stuff. Ive done a cpl hours of research and I cant find SQUAT! Ive called a few buddies in AMA and asked them and apparently thats considered "top secret" info....sooooooo hmmmmppphhh!

Kit ECU HELP! |

I've read that its because of the bikes air induction system what adds air to the exhaust to burn off any excess fuel to lower emissions from the exhaust. Graves makes smog block off kits so that you can plug the air induction system which prevents the excess fuel from being burned off and causing the popping sound. Thats all the information i know on the problem. I was wondering if anyone knew if this kit will stop the popping and if it will hurt my bike or its performance. and just for ur information i have a D&D slip on pipe, K&N air filter, and a PCIII. Any input or help with this would be great because the popping and backfiring is really annoying. thanks

R1 popping/Backfiring |

I came across these recently when I decided that I wanted to improve my corning skills. I would characterize myself as post-entry skilled with about 30K miles, but many of those miles were two-up and my approach was very conservative. I’m 57 riding a BMW K1200LT. I recently discovered that while riding one-up in a group ride (my first), that I could not keep up with several members in the twisties. On discussing this with one of the riders that I deeply respect, he pointed out a few of my errors. The things that he noted were things that while I knew them, out of laziness, I never incorporated them in to habit. That awareness led me to the Skills Series. While practicing my new knowledge I came across a personal observation that I would like to share. I’m sure most might know what I going to say, but it is worth stating and pertains directly to the article related to Panic. There is a model of learning called the “Four stages of competence.” They are; Unconscious incompetence, Conscious incompetence, Conscious competence, and Unconscious competence. Upon reading and reflecting on the Skills material, I would characterize myself nearing the “Conscious Competence” stage. However, whenever I practiced cornering maneuvers at a speed in which I experienced fear, or perhaps panic, I would regress to the “Unconscious Incompetence.” Advancing for me meant to slow down enough to avoid that stage so that I could work forward toward Unconscious Competence. In order words, I can't form the proper habits unless I temporally suspend the panic stage during practice drills. This means suspending my desire to go fast and slow down so that I can concentrate on what I’m doing. It is through a survey website used by my university (California State University, San Bernardino) called Qualtrics. You do not have to provide any personal information, and I will not ask you to do so. I will not be able to link any responses to any participants. It is 100% anonymous. Here is the link: http://csusbpsych.us.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_02IlhgIeqfNHSYY Of course, thank you all very much for participating! It's the basic, cheapest one they sell, but still $400. Hammer drilled four holes in the garage floor, pounded in some concrete anchors, and it was ready to go-and removable when needed. It works great, better than expected. You get to stand up, the "peeler' bar removes the old tire with minimal stress to tire and wheel. Installing the new tire is easier yet. With the wheel locked down ,it's possible to put the first bead on by hand pressure only, and the second bead goes on with very little effort. I've done three tires so far, all went well. Everything that contacts your wheel is nylon type material, I think scratching a wheel would be very unlikely. More importantly, the stress on your new tires during mounting is much less than using irons. They also have a mount that plugs into a receiver hitch on your vehicle, so you could use it anywhere, no longer be at the mercy of the tire vender's schedule at the racetrack.

Cycle Hill tire changer review |

Reading about Kent Kunitsugu's close call on the freeway, on his way to work on the R-1, in the April issue of the magazine, brings home the dangers we all face as riders on a daily basis. Most situations are not of our making, but the mistakes & the carelessness shown by motorists, whose brains do not register the image of a motorcycle, in addition to their multitasking, which is so prevalent these days. Some situations, however, are of our own making. Here is the story of one of mine. I narrate this in the hopes that another rider will not be tempted to make the same mistake I did. It was a warm June evening in the summer of 2003, when I was on a long sabbatical and just chilling on the sofa. I'd gotten bored with the fare on the television and decided to go out for a short 25 minute ride on the back roads, just outside of Houston, where I lived. I geared up with my mesh pants & jacket, as well as boots & gloves and my helmet & ear plugs. I slowly rode down my long driveway to the road, enjoying the whine of the gear cams of my 2002 RC-51. Less than a mile later, I hit the Farm to Market road that had some long, smooth sweepers. About 10 miles later, I turned back after the road came up to the main freeway connecting Houston & Austin, Texas and headed back home. I was by my lonesome, at 10:30 PM without any traffic, on the rural 2 lane highway with a 55 MPH speed limit, when I saw 2 cars close together ahead of me. They were on a straight section of the road, before a sweeping left hander that I'd usually take at around 85 MPH during daytime. Oh, great ! I thought to myself. Now I won't get to enjoy my last fast corner. Then the devil on my left shoulder whispered to me that I could go for it. I did not think twice. I had made my decision to pass both cars. I switched my high beams to low and as I was about to pass the second car, I glanced at my digital speedometer which read 93 MPH. I flicked on my high beams again when I started passing the second car, as I knew the corner was going to come up upon me very quickly. But it was already too late as I'd passed the point on the road where I'd have to tip the bike into the corner. All of a sudden, the road seemed to open up in front of me, becoming the size of half the width of a football field. Everything slowed down, as if I was watching the scene unfold in front of my eyes in slow motion. The colors became sharply contrasting, with the asphalt turning an almost bright white, the razor wire on the pasture fence sharply outlined in front of the fluorescent field of grass, with a large oak tree at my 9 in 3D. All this while I was thinking about the stupid move I'd made and that I'd be riding in an ambulance to the hospital, which was a good 35 minutes away. At least, I thought, I was wearing all the proper gear. But I thought of a broken arm or leg & a punctured lung that I'd likely get, going through the fence & hitting the tree branches. I also thought of breaking my eye-glasses & what a pain that would be and visualizing the Paramedics tending to me, next to their ambulance, while my beloved RC-51 lay in a crumpled heap next to me. I did not know which would be more painful. My injuries or the sight of my totaled bike. I thought of all this and more for what seemed to be an awful long time, when just as suddenly, everything speeded up back to it's normal pace and I found my self having gone through the corner and was in a position of getting the bike up from it's lean and accelerating. I was fast enough so that the accompanying sound of the rumbling V-Twin had a motorist pull his car over on the dirt, 300 yards ahead on the straight, when I came barrelling down upon him with my brights on. As I passed him, I was confused and relieved at how I'd gotten through what I just did. I was still cursing my stupidity when I drove up my driveway about five minutes later. It was unclear to me how I'd gotten through that corner. I still firmly believe, to this day, that my riding skills had absolutely had nothing to with it. I immediately had a shower and performed ablution to pray to God Almighty for saving me from myself that night. And if I still remember this incident after I die, I will try and ask God to show me, in VERY slow motion, how He was able to save me on that corner. I vowed never to pull a silly and crazy stunt like that ever again, especially at nighttime, when visibility is limited and the dangers are increased. At least I didn't, until almost six years later, when I passed in between two Big Rigs on the freeway at over a good 125 MPH. But that's another story and one that I am not proud of. Thank you, as always, for letting me share. Ride Safe & Friendly. Best Regards, Dr. Muhammad Rahi.

My One Close Call On A Motorcycle. |

I have to admit to wanting one of those beauties along w/ everyone else on the planet but I couldn't fold myself up that small. Anyway, seems to be the best way out for Ducati. You didn't imagine they've been well for years past, did you? You didn't imagine Italianos still hand making your special breed whilst sipping cappuccino, did you? My results are waaaay off from yours. Just curious if your 60-80 mph top gear passing test begins with accelerating from a steady state 60 mph, or rather with accelerating from a slower speed (such as 50 or 55) and then starting the timer as the speedometer passes through 60 mph. Thanks.
