Individual cells in a battery consist of an anode and cathode immersed in some form of electrolyte. In a lead-acid battery, each cell produces approximately 2.1 volts and six cells are combined in series for 12.6 volts total. In a lithium-iron battery, four cells of approximately 3.3 volts each combine for a total of 13.2 volts.
