Available from November 2002, the range builds upon the success of Azaro II and offers a wider choice of sizes and improved technology to meet the demands of sport touring, sport and supersport machines.
Azaro AV45/46-ST covers the sport touring segment with eighteen sizes; eight fronts are designated AV45-ST and ten rears designated AV46-ST. New sizes include a 130/70ZR16, giving Honda CBR 900RR riders a higher-mileage option, and a massive 200/50ZR17 suitable for machines such as Kawasaki's ZX-12R.
Avon's unique VBD spiral wind system, used so successfully in Azaro I and Azaro II, has been fine-tuned to give Advanced Variable Belt Density (A-VBD). The A-VBD system produces a rear tire using a joint-less belt of ultra-strong Aramid fibres to give the optimum stress load at all lean angles. The centre tread section has closely wound Aramid fibres for maximum stability and long life whilst the shoulder section has slightly wider spaced wound-on Aramid fibres giving a bigger footprint at high lean angles.
All rear tires benefit from SBC (Spiral Belted Carcass) technology, with ultra strong belts to accommodate the added stresses transmitted through the carcass by higher levels of grip. EAF (Enhanced Aqua Flow) computer designed tread patterns maximize the throughput of water within the tire footprint for improved confidence in the wet. Both front and rear tires boast TA (Tri-Arc) tread profiles, that vary across the tire to provide a balance of handling and stability at all lean angles.
Leo Smith, Avon's Motorcycle Product Manager said, "This new generation of Azaro tires has been extensively tested and developed, both on the road and on the track, by test riders of the highest calibre. The result is a family of tires offering a solution for every rider's needs, from high-mileage sport-touring to exploring performance limits on a closed circuit". He continued, "Avon has a long pedigree of technological innovation and we continue to pass this advantage onto our customers ".
